Writings of Kavi Tansukh Ji Lahore

Writings of Kavi Tansukh Ji Lahore
16th Century Manuscript of Hithupdesh from Nepal

Kavi Tansukh Ji was a resident of Lahore. In 1741 Bikrami, Kavi Ji had completed a localized translation of Hithupdesh (an ancient Sahaskrit text containing short stories, very popular among children). Tansukh Ji had three sons, two of which were also jewels of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Darbar but we cannot confirm their names (Based on Kavi Ji’s writings, we can speculate that they were named Mansukh and Nainsukh).
For some reason, Tansukh Ji went to Ranthambore Fort (a political prison). His sons had sent him a copy of Kavi Lakhan Ji’s localized translation of Hithupdesh while imprisoned. This is how Kavi Ji found out about the Sikhs' love for writers and Guru Sahib’s Haven for Poets. Kavi Ji immediately brought their own translation to Maharaj (along with multiple copies).
After reading Kavi Lakhan Ji’s translation, Tansukh Ji had thought of preparing a version of Hitoupdesh written in Dohara’s and Chaupaee’s. This translation was referred to as Rajneet[i] Granth (not to be confused with Chanakya Rajneeti localization by Kavi Sainapat[i] and Pandit Devi Das Ji’s Raajneet[i]).
Kavi Ji was from Lahore but due to unknown actions, he was brought to Ranthambore. In Muaasir Aalam Giree, the following event occurred on 19 Kattak 1733 Bikrami: “When Emperor Aurangzeb left Jama Masjid and was about to mount his horse, a man came with a naked sword. The Soldiers grabbed him and started to beat him up. Despite this, the merciful emperor provided him with excellent food and great care at Ranthambore Fort”.
During the time of the Mughals, Ranthambore (Gujarat) was a prison for high political-risk prisoners. After the Shaheedi of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, Dhir Mal was arrested and kept here for over a year. Dhir Mal died after eating poisonous food in 1734 Bikrami. It is suspected that Tansukh Ji was a scholarly sikh that went to get revenge for the Shaheedi of 9ve Paatshah. After the emperor realized Tansukh Ji was educated, he decided to send him to the political prison.
Perhaps, it was because of being locked up that Guru Sahib took Kavi Ji’s two sons into Their Protection at Sri Anandpur Sahib. This was how they stumbled upon Kavi Lakhan Ji’s Hitoupdesh to begin with.
Tansukh was a true faithful sikh and fully grasped how Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji started a spiritual wave that evolved into the two powers (Miri-Piri) of the swords. Kavi Ji wanted to contribute to the movement being fostered by Guru Sahib. The Raajneet[i] Granth is not available in a complete form. There are multiple folios scattered across various libraries (tn: this is at the time of Piara Singh Padam was writing this).
The following consists of excerpts from what Piara Singh Padam had available in front of them in the research process:
