Adhiyaye 1 (7/8)
Arjun going through the pains of emotional attachment after Sri Krishna Ji showed him who he was fighting.

Gobind Gita Translation continued...

If you are new to this series, please read the preface & the previous sections here.

In this section, Arjun snaps out of his bir ras (warrior rage) and starts thinking about the consequences of killing his family member. Sri Krishna Ji directed him to look at the opposing forces... this made Arjun reflect before heading into battle. Arjun refers to this one bad deed leading to many other bad deeds as a result.

Doharaa:
Oh Sri Krishna Ji (Hae Prabh; Pr-Bhoo away from the elements; Nirankaar Vaheguru) to kill Durjodhan (Dujodhhan Kae Maarae)..
...will not bring me kalyan (Nahee Kaliaan; as mentioned in past posts, kalyan cannot simply be defined but you could see it as bliss, happiness)
Listen, Oh Beloved! (Suno Piaarae; Arjun is reflecting to himself but through a conversation with Sri Krishna Ji)
That Durjodhan (Jo Durjodhhan) who has such a bad mindset (Maha Kabudhhee; Maha = Great/Grand, Budhee is like intelligence then adding Ka- in front turns it into something negative; if you see Su- in front it would have meant good intellect)
By murdering him (Tis Kai Maarae), will it be a righteous kill? (Hathiaa Sudhhee)
Even if he is blinded in the greed of kingdom
(Vahu Jadap Raaj Lobh A[n]dhh[u] Bhaeiaa)
My mind keeps thinking about (Man Mo Gahiaa; the mind is attached to this thought or the mind keeps going towards this thought) a bachan of the Shaastra: (Shaastr Bachan Main)

Shaastr Saakh:
Destroying a lineage (Kul Ka Naas[u]), that friend becomes an enemy (Mitr So Drohee)
There is not such a sin like this act (Eis Tae Parae Paap Nahee Koee)

Mangal Chhand:
Listen Sri Krishna Ji (Sun Rikheekaes Govind; Master of the Senses, the One who takes care of the Innocent & Defenseless)
You are the Compassionate to the Weak (Tum Deen Daeiaal) and the Form of Bliss (Anand).
I have recited the Simritees (Mai[n] PaaT Si[n]mrit Keeaa)
...and have adorned a teaching in my heart:
(Tin Bachan Hirdai Leeaa)

The worst sin is (Paap Prachand; prachand means to strong/sharp) to kill your own family (Kul Hatiaa; kul refers to ancestry, lineage, family... we usually refer to ancestry/lineage as those who are no longer alive and in the past)
Killing them (Thin Hathae) will end all peace (Sabh Sukh Khand; Khand means to stop... the opposite of this is akhand meaning continuous, non-stop like akhand paath/kirtan)
There are various other types of sins that happen as a result of this one paap
(Avar Paap Bahu Bidhh Hoei)
The duty of family will be lost and gone
(Kul Dharam Jaavae Khoei; Arjun is going to list the consequences of killing a family member... if a family member is killed by another family member then it makes it okay to do other acts which remove a person from their responsibilities to their family).

When Duty/Righteousness becomes destroyed
(Jab Dhharam Naasat Bhaeiaa)
Then Adharam comes to take place
(Tab Adharam Isthhir Rahiaa)
If such an adharam exists then
(Adhharam Aisae Hoei; Adharam is a state of unrighteousness, undutifulness, not respecting your role. etc)
Then women in the family will follow this way too
(Kul Istree Sabh Joei; referring to the conduct that will follow as other family members will break their duties after seeing how you broke yours)

They will become unfaithful (VibhichaarNee Ho Rahai; started acting wrongly)
They will take company of other men
(Par Purakh Ka Sa[n]g Gahai; being unfaithful to your family by murdering a loved one, will end up making it okay for your family members being unfaithful to you)
From this repeated behaviour
(Tis[u] Sau Jo Sa[n]tat Hoei; one act leads to another, being unfaithful will produce illegitimate children)
Then all the castes will be mixed together
(Sabh Varan Sa[n]kar Soei;  it should be important to note that before our current times, caste heavily emphasized what job the child would do when they grow up... their father/mother would provide them training accordingly but if these were mixed then the child’s future would be at stake)

When all the castes are mixed together
(Jab Varan Sa[n]kar Sabh Bhaeiaa)
The Son and their Ancestors are seen as one.
(Pi[n]d Pitr Pahuchan Rahiaa; the lineage is so mixed up that you cannot tell who is the father and who is the son... the respect for illegitimate children and their legitimate children... upper class grandson and lower class grandfather... in context to previous societies, this would have been seen as chaos; Pind is seen to be the son in context to his ancestors)
When the child does not achieve [spiritual achievement]
(Jab Pind Pahuchae Naah[i])
The ancestors fall from the heavens
(Pitr Swarag Tae Gir Jaah[i]; this potentially refers to any good karam which the ancestors are enjoying the fruit of their actions in heavenly realms will be lost due to the bad actions of their descendants)

Whoever destroys their lineage
(Jin[i] Keeaa Kul Ka Naas)
They cause all of these sins to occur
(Sabh Paap Tisae Parkaas)
Oh Sri Krishna Ji, [my] Divine-Beloved
(Hae Prabh[u] Saajan Daev; Saajan is a friend but Vaheguru is the Best Friend)
Listen to the result of destroying lineage
(Kul Naas Kaa Sun Bhaev)

Daas wishes he could provide you with a more complete translation with many other contexts but this is as much as can be done by my Kabudhhi. From one seed forms many trees. Choose the right seeds to plant to provide you with shade and fruits rather than thorns and rashes. Your actions will have an impact on the ones around you. Think twice about the consequences of your actions. Please forgive for any mistakes and do provide corrections/suggestions.

In the next section, Arjun continues this reflection and then the conversation goes back to Sanjay's Narration to Raja Dhhritrashtra. Stay tuned for the last section of the 1st adhiyaye.
