SuNi-ai Eesar[u] Barmaa I[n]dh[u]

ਸੁਣਿਐ (SuNi-ai) = by listening, through listening
ਈਸਰੁ (Eesar[u]) = Shiv Ji
ਬਰਮਾ (Barmaa) = Brahma
ਇੰਦੁ (I[n]dh[u]) = Indra Devta, the King of the Angels/Heavens [Zeus]

Shiv Ji is known as Eesar. Shiv Ji has many stories where he has overcome the problems created by the demons: Jalandhar and Bhasma Asura. Shiv Ji was advised by Vishnu Ji in these moments and thus, only from listening were these problems solved.After listening, Shiv Ji received peace. The creative power of Brahma was attained through listening because when Brahma was created through the Lotus Stem, Brahma received Divine Revelation: ‘Oh Brahma! Endure spiritual hardship and then, you will receive creative power’. It was only through listening that Brahma was able to attain such powers. It was only through listening that Brihaspathee attained the position as Guru of the Devtay.

Another Interpretation: Those who worship Shiv Ji, they hear of the qualities of Shiv Ji and eventually, become one with Shiv Ji. Similarly with Brahma’s worshippers.

A third interpretation: Through listening, can we know about the traits, actions, and nature of Shiv Ji, Brahma, and the moon as well.

A fourth interpretation: It is through listening to Brahma that the other Devtay were able to reach such an esteemed state that matched Brahma - himself.

SuNi-ai Mukh[i] SaalaahaN Ma[n]dh[u]

Padh Arthh (Word-by-Word):
ਸੁਣਿਐ (SuNi-ai) = by listening, through listening
ਮੁਖਿ (Mukh[i]) = Highest/Supreme or from the mouth, through the mouth
ਸਾਲਾਹਣ (SaalaahaN) = Praising and praying, praises of God’s Wonderfulness
ਮੰਦੁ (Ma[n]dh[u]) = bad or evil-minded people

What is bad? Nindya is bad. Mukh/Pradhhaan refers to the highest/leader. What is the highest type of evil? (incomplete translation) Example: Just like Valmiki Ji used to be a thief and murderer... after listening, he turned his life around and then became one of the highest level of people.-Interpretation not included-Third interpretation: the word ‘Mukh’ refers to a praisable state (being of the highest) and the word ‘Mandh’ refers to a criticized state. If you are to remove the Kha-kha in Mukh then apply Daelee Dheepak (poetic interpretation done by taking a specific word in a line of poetry to apply to the other words in order to develop meaning to the line). So we can interpret this as: That Leader who is worthy of praise, by doing Sangat of them, the person not worthy of praise... will drop their bad traits/actions. Both of these things can be understood only by listening.-Fourth interpretation: It is through listening that one person will praise the Name of Vaheguru. Ma[n]dh = Madhhur = Sweet. In that state of Sehaj (peace), their speech becomes sweet.

ਸੁਣਿਐ (SuNi-ai) = by listening, through listening
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ (Jog Jugath[i]) = the techniques of Yoga, the way to unite
ਤਨਿ (Than[i]) = secrets of the body
ਭੇਦ (Bhaedh) = subtle knowledge, secrets

Referring to the techniques of Yoga and the word ‘Than[i]’/Body, one thinks about the 6 Chakkars of the body (six chakras). By first, listening to and understanding the 6 chakras can one be able to reach the Dasva Dhuaar (Tenth Gate)/Crown Chakra). No one can start yoga or even reach it’s end goal without listening to instruction.

Another interpretation: ‘Jog’ refers to union - ‘Jug’ is another name for this. Who is this referring to? The Separated Sense of God and the Separate Sense of the Soul are brought into 1 into the word ‘Asee’ (referring to Veda Mahavaak, Thath-thvam-Asee). ‘Thith na Bhaedh’ meaning they have no difference between them. There remains no difference between the goal of Union/Jog and the strategies ‘Jug’ to reach. [TN: please note that the original Gurbani was not in padh-chaedh but larreevaar: meaning no spaces between the words... Sikh panth has put spaces between words so that it is easier for people to read Gurbani. So, here... Kavi Ji are spacing the letters in different places in order to interpret in a different manner.

ਸੁਣਿਐ (SuNi-ai) = by listening, through listening
ਸਾਸਤ (Saasth) = 6 Shaastras/Darshans: Vedanta (focussing on the metaphysical teachings found in the end of the Vedas), Sankhya, Yoga, Meemaansaa, Nyaye, Vaishaeshika
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ (Simrith[i]) = Simrithees (traditional Indian texts are divided into two general categories: Simrithees and Shruthee; Simrithee is that which is written from human memory/understanding... ie Purana’s, Ramayana, Mahabharata; Shruthee is that which is divinely heard/revealed: ie Vedas, Bhagavad Gita) OR remembrance
ਵੇਦ (Vaedh) = 4 Veda’s: 4 ancient Indian texts which are held to the highest esteem by Hindus, include: Rig-Vaedh, Yajur-Vaedh, Atharvaa-Vaedh, Shaam-Vaedh OR Knowledge

Another interpretation: The different Devtay - mentioned in the 6 Shaastra’s, Simrithees, and the 4 Veda’s - take on a physical form, those who worship them... will be able to identify them through their described qualities as a result of listening.

Third interpretation: the ‘Saa’ in Saasth can be interpreted as ‘So’. Here are pangkti’s, where 'Saa' is synonymous with 'So' (So as in that who):
ਰੂਪਵੰਤਿ ਸਾ ਸੁਘੜਿ ਬਿਚਖਣਿ ਜੋ ਧਨ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
Roopva[n]th[i] Saa Sugharr[i] BichakhaN[i] Jo Dhhan Ka[n]th[i] Piaaree Jeeo[u]
The beautiful, elegant, wise woman is that who is beloved to her Husband

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਸਭਰਾਈ ॥
Nanak Saa Sabhraaee

In this way, So can also be interpreted as ‘So Sath’ - our True Form can be realized through the Simrith[i] = Naam Simran and Vaedhaa = Divine Knowledge. Meaning that one can realize Their True Form through Naam Simran and Divine Knowledge.-Fourth interpretation: Saasath also means liberation. Through listening and engraining the qualities of Parameshwar-Vaheguru, can the seemingly separated soul attain liberation. (Translation incomplete)
