Uthhaankaa/Backstory

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ

[Translator's Note: This Steek was originally written by Giani Avtar Singh Ji Badhni Kalaan - the Grandson of Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Khalsa Ji Bhindranwale. This Steek is actually only a translation of a selection of the full Nitnem Steek found here]

This is the fourth Bani as part of the morning Nitnem. This Bani is found written in the last section of Dasam Granth’s Charitharpakhyan. The purpose of this Bani is to ask for protection and to do Ardaas/Begging Prayer in the Feet of Akaal Purakh Ji. It is also important to share that this Bani is part of the Sikh's Nitnem (Daily Spiritual Discipline). There are some overly logical people who raise fingers about the authenticity of Charitropakhyan and whether Kalgidhar Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji actually wrote the Bani. They say some of the featured stories contain vulgar language and topics. [TN: Charithropakhyan is a Bani which contains over 400 stories which teach lessons to the Khalsa about the tricks they will have to face in the future. Majority of Sikhs do accept this Bani and it is just a handful of divisive people that wish for it to not be read based on their own subjective experiences. The very last section is actually Chaupai Sahib]. However, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji included Chaupai Sahib as part of the morning Nitnem and in the evening Rehras Sahib Ji as well. In doing so, Guru Maharaj have pulled down the curtain of doubts placed by the overly analytical people. This is a special writing of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji and it was revealed to us in 1753 Bikrami (around 1696 CE). At the end of Chaupai Sahib Guru Maharaj mention themselves:
ਚੌਪਈ ॥ (Chaup-aee):
ਸੰਬਤ ਸੱਤ੍ਰਹ ਸਹਸ ਭਣਿਜੈ ॥
Sa[n]bath Sathrah Sahas BhaNijai
Saying the year: 1700

ਅਰਧ ਸਹਸ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੀਨਿ ਕਹਿੱਜੈ ॥
Ardhh Sahas Phun[i] Theen[i] Kahijai
Half of 100 = 50, then say: 3 = 1753

ਭਾਦ੍ਰਵ ਸੁਦੀ ਅਸਟਮੀ ਰਵਿਵਾਰਾ ॥
Bhaadhrav Sudhee Astmee Ravivaaraa
Ravivaar = Sunday, Bhadhro Sudhee 7 (falls in September)

ਤੀਰ ਸਤੁੱਦ੍ਰਵ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸੁਧਾਰਾ ॥੨੯॥
Theer Sath[u]dhrav Gra[n]thh Sudhhaaraa
This granth was completed at the banks of Satluj river at a tall hill in a mountaineous region near Nangal, Punjab where Bhibour Sahib is present today
