The Khalsa's Laws & Prohibitions

[TN: At the time one is blessed with Amrit, laws are given for the Khalsa to follow. We realize that the Khalsa is distinct from Hindu & other religions after looking at these]
LAWS
1) Today you are born in the House of Guru Sahib, your previous birth’s castes, classes, family names, religions, etc are all gone. This is why Your Father is Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mother is Mata Sahib [Devaan]. Know yourself to be from Patna Sahib [referring to the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji] and a resident of Anandpur Sahib. (Bhai Kahn Singh Ji write that this does not mean that we give up our residential villages/cities/towns where we live or register that we are from Patna Sahib and Anandpur Sahib in our legal documents)
2) Bathe daily, brush your teeth, use the bathroom and make yourself clean during Amrit Vela.
3) Recite the following Gurbani everyday with love: Jap[u]ji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, [Tav Prasaadh] Savaiyae (Sraavag Sudhh...), [Benti] Chaupaee Sahib, Anand Sahib [all 40 Paurree’s], Rahiraas Sahib, and Sohila Sahib.
4) Keep the Rehat of the Five K’s: Kes (Uncut Hair), Kirpan (Thalwaar/Sword), Kachh (Kachhera), Ka[n]ghaa (Wooden Comb), and Karra
5) Being the children of Guru Sahib, we are all siblings [of other members of the Khalsa]. This is why we eat, drink and interact with other Khalsa like brothers [not as strangers or with caste/class difference].
6) Know all 10 Guru Sahib as One, Know that their teachings are our Guru as Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and know the physical form of our Guru is the Khalsa. Do seva of Them from the bottom of your hearts and follow their bachans.
7) Carry out your work with Dharam/righteousness.
8) Offer 10% of your earnings to the Khalsa and for the betterment of the Panth.
9) Know the tasks of the Panth to be your own then to offer your body & material wealth to get them done.
10) Understanding that doing kind acts is one of the highest duties of the Sikh Dharam and things you can do through the human body.
11) Repeat and Reflect upon Vidhya/Knowledge, specifically Gurmukhi texts and books about the Khalsa Dharam. One should know these very thoroughly. Practice Shastar Vidhiya/Weaponry and horsemanship thoroughly as well.
12) Keep your mind humble but your intellect high ([stay spiritually and politically wise while remaining humble]).
13) Know the Dastaar/Turban as the Symbol of the Community and the means to protect the Kaes (uncut hair).
14) Have the Sat Sangat of the Gurmukhs
[TN: Congregation of Those who reflect and repeat the Truth] .
15) All of the ceremonies (ie birth, death, etc) be done in accordance to Guru’s Teachings
16) To give your full efforts towards Gurmat Parchar (spreading Guru’s Teachings)
17) To attend Jorr Mela’s held for days connected to Guru Sahib and do Katha, Keerthan during those times
18) Staying loyal and obedient to our Master (Guru Sahib; don’t betray the Guru nor the Khalsa)
19) Staying sewn into the Khalsa as per the rules of the Khalsa Dharam and understand Your Deeper Purpose.
20) Keep daughters unpierced and like your own sons. Make them capable of worldly knowledge and religious knowledge as well.
21) If you do anything against the Khalsa Dharam then present yourself to the Khalsa (Panj Pyaare) and ask for forgiveness then take any punishment (Thankhah) given to you.
PROHIBITTED
22) Besides Akaal Purakh Vaheguru, do not worship any deity (devi-devte), avatar (incarnation) or paigamber (messenger).
23) Don’t have firm belief towards any religious scriptures besides Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
24) Don’t carry out ritualistic practices such as Yantra, Mantra, Shakun, Mahoorath, Grah[i], Raashee, Shraadhh, Hom, Tharpan among other doubtful things [TN: Bhai Kahn Singh go over these later in the book]
25) Don’t get married to someone who is not Sikh (ie don’t marry someone who is not a Sikh)
26) Don’t associate with Meenay (followers of Prithhee Chand - had a big role in the Shaheedi of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, multiple assassination attempts on Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji), Masandh (corrupt leaders who were supposed to take care of Guru Sahib’s institution but then looked out only for their own benefit), Dhheer-maleeyay (followers of Dhheer Mal who rejected Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji’s Guruship, Dheer Mal stole the Kartarpuri Bir and attempted to assassinate Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji with guns), Raam-Raaeeay (followers of Raam Raai - who changed Gurbani in order to appease the Mughal emperor), Narree-maar (people who smoke - narree refers to the pipe used to smoke Hooka/Shisha), Kurree-maar (people who kill female babies), and Sir-gunmaa (bald heads; in old times, if someone went bald, it was equal to having the head cut off - as per granths such as Mahabharat and Manu-Smrithee. In Gurmat, to be Sir Gunm means to lose your head. Meaning: the person who shaves their head bald has lost their head)
Besides these people, someone who separates themselves from the Guru’s Teachings and spreads hatred or declares themselves the Guru and against the Vision of the Guru Sahib - they should not be associated with as well.
27) The following should always be let go of/renounced: theft/robbery, dating/casual sex while unmarried, dishonesty, injustice, insult, deception, betrayal, gambling among other bad activities/qualities.
28) Renounce/let go of intoxicants such as alcohol which destroy the physical body &/or the mind
29) Don’t say half of a Sikh’s name (often used as an insult). Say full names.
30) After you say you will do something, don’t turn away from your word.
31) Don’t wear things that a chanchal isthree would wear (a woman whose mind is not at peace - promiscous/trying to seduce men, always creating trouble, or mischievous in nature). Know the Shastars as our jewellery and adorn them accordingly.
32) Always let go of/renounce eating Kuttaa meat, consuming Tobacco, cutting the hairs on the head, and having the company of unrelated women.
33) Don’t accept any parshaad that was offered to any Devi, Devta, Marrhee, Matt (graves/cremation place) etc.
34) Don’t do Sukhnaa Sukhnee (making transactional vows to Guru Sahib that if I receive a desired thing or outcome then I will do some sort of seva or jaap for certain amount of days)
35) Not taking that which rightfully belongs to someone else (including bribery)
36) Besides the Gurdwara, don’t seek any other place for pilgrimage or place of religious authority.
37) Never keep any enmity, jealousy, nor wish ill upon the various different groups within Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Panth and the steadfast Sikhs within the Guru’s House.

38) Don’t put on hair dye, don’t pluck out white hairs
39) Don’t accept money from your daughters
40) Never beg
41) Never turn your back once in a battle
